An incredible experience, full of learning
Lighting Design
(M.A.)
It was great to get to know classmates beyond the screen and to meet them every semester in different cities in Germany, but also in Thailand. Furthermore, it was amazing to be taught by excellent professors and lecturers from all over the world and to connect with well-known professionals in the field. I am really grateful for all the experiences we had together and for everything we were able to achieve. Without a doubt, it was an unforgettable adventure full of learning, new experiences, achievements and goals accomplished. If you ask me if I would do it again, yes, I would! It's one of those opportunities that happen once or twice in a lifetime and you have to take advantage of them. We always have an amazing team, very friendly and willing to help us in any situation. Thank you again.
Designing with Light Across Borders
Lighting Design
(M.A.)
The part-time distance learning course in Architectural Lighting Design at Wismar University is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to deepen their expertise while maintaining flexibility in both time and location. The program is thoughtfully structured to accommodate professionals from around the world, making it ideal for those balancing work, life, and education.
The faculty is exceptional—highly knowledgeable, deeply experienced, and genuinely committed to student growth. One of the greatest strengths of the program is the vibrant international community it fosters. You not only gain insights into lighting practices from different parts of the world, but you also form lasting friendships and a strong professional network that spans continents.
The course combines academic rigor with real-world application, and the international exposure—both in content and in student interactions—greatly broadens your perspective. If you're looking for a high-quality, flexible, and globally connected program in architectural lighting design, this one truly stands out.

Very good

I am Aashish from India and finished my bachelors in Engineering and now pursuing my masters in Lighting Design. This course has been very interesting and helped me learn more into designing skills.
I would like this course to be slightly more technical where we face real life challenges. Technical calculations is the bridge to real world from designing world.
Otherwise this course is perfect for everyone who is seeking to make career out of lighting design. Teachers are fabulous with their work and experiences. They always help and clear our doubts in no time, just like on campus. This is something one won't get easily in other universities.
Networking on campus is unmatchable and has helped me grow and understand ventures from different parts of the world.
My suggestion would include adding technical module and software training sessions.
Thanks.

A toolkit for being a successful lighting designer
Lighting Design
(M.A.)
I can highly recommend the studies to those interested in becoming a good lighting designer, and with some experience in lighting design.
I came into the program with 5 years of lighting design experience working in an electrical engineering office. I thought I was a decent lighting designer and the program would help me fill in some gaps in my knowledge. And indeed I was able to get answers to a lot of questions I had, but more. the program pushed me to develop in the multiple aspects of design work: communication, CAD drawings visualizations, presenting, cultural aspects of lighting, heritage work, public projects, stakeholder management, and in many other topics. And most importantly, group work.
It has been interesting and fun working with other students from different cultural and work backgrounds. Everyone brings new perspectives to lighting, and it has been great having these conversations.
The design management side of the program is not be overlooked, what an asset to the study program. Implementing what I learned from the lighting design and the design management into my current work processes has had immediate positive affects. The price of the program is worth it.
And 2 last notes:
1. The program gives you a toolkit for being a successful lighting designer.
2. You get what you put in.
